I absolutely love science fiction movies and books. Star Wars, Star Trek (all of them) old 1960′s sci fi movies, if it is Science Fiction I’m all over it! Usually I like the books better than the movies because the movies don’t leave much to the imagination. However, after watching the Avatar Movie I now prefer the movie! I could never have imagined the Navi people to be the coolest blue color with pointy ears and still look like earthly humans. I really like the way they run, almost cat like that almost enhances the black stripes they have on their body. I’m still trying to figure out how the women run on those high heels……

For Halloween this year I’ve decided to dress up like Neytiri and found a great site to shop for Avatar Costumes at www.avatarhalloweencostumes.org. They have a large selection of costumes for kids and adults. I’m 5’10″ and fit into the adult extra large just fine. My favorite part of this site is that they also have blue eyelashes, blue make-up and a Neytiri wig as well.

Call me old fashioned but I just love the original Alice in Wonderland movie that came out in 1951. I loved the story itself and when I saw it as a seven year old I thought, at the time, it was the best movie I had ever seen! I always wanted to have a blue dress like Alice wore in that movie so this year for Halloween I’m going to get one and dress up like Alice. I thought is would be hard to find a dress that looked right. Personally, I thought the 2010 Alice in Wonderland Movie really missed the original story and was really kind of dark instead of a fun story. All the characters almost had a sinister persona which was kind of disturbing for me. I did like most of the costumes, they were all vibrant, colorful and enhanced the character’s personality.

I know that back in 1951 they just didn’t have the means to make the movie as colorful as today. With that said, the original movie is still my favorite. I guess I’m dreaming, kind of like Alice!

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised when my teenagers decided they wanted to get costumes this Halloween. For the past couple of years they have acted like they were way too old to dress up for Halloween even though my husband and I do every year which really seems to really embarrass them when their friends see us going to a party in a costume.

Anyway they decided they would do a group thing so they could all dress up together. This turned into a big project finding a theme they could all agree on. Finally, they all seem to have agreed to dress up like different characters from the Toy Story Movies. I liked this idea because the movie isn’t violent nor does it have any “adult themed” scenes. They like it because there are lots of character to choose from.

So my husband and I are not as skinny as we used to be. With that said we still like to dress up for Halloween and usually choose characters from television or movies to dress up as. Last year we went as characters from South Park, really funny for those people who watch the show. She really is not in the mood to be cute so this is perfect. The mask is actually pretty comfortable so it should be a fun night for all of us.
