How to Recognize the Signs of Stress for Dancers
Dance is one of the major methods of relieving stress and there are many who have found respite in dancing. But when a person is used to prolonged hours of dancing, there is no doubt that there can be many problems arising. One such issue while dancing for long is stress. Yes, while dancing can act as a stress relief measure, it can be a cause for the stress as well and this depends upon the amount of strain you take to dance.
Stress Fractures
One of the major problems that dancing can cause is the stress fractures which is not only possible with the athletes but with the dancers as well. This is actually an injury that is caused due to the fracture in the bones. It is due to the repetitive performances and practices of dances that these fractures happen. There are various problems that arise due to the stress fractures.
The reason for the stress fracture is that there is a constant change that the bone undergoes which further results in the complications. There can also be genetic and hormonal reasons for the stress fractures and happens mainly when the bones are too weak to undergo stress. The more the bones are strong, lesser is the risk of stress fractures.
Symptoms of stress due to dancing
There are various symptoms by which one can recognize stress and some of them are as follows.
When one practices dance for long hours, it is likely that the legs undergoes a large amount of strain which later turns into serious complications disrupting the other daily activities.
There is also an excess of fatigue that can be taken into consideration as one of the stress symptoms. When a person dances to steps that are too difficult, there is also a possibility for back aches and cramps in the feet. They are mostly common in the people who are new to dancing. There can also be sleep issues and also pains in the neck regions sometimes accompanied by head aches. Muscle cramps are one of the common symptoms of stress for dancers and it is best to restrain the number of hours of dancing to avoid these complications.
Taking breaks in between the dancing sessions can also help in giving not only your legs and feet but also to the whole of your body. Make use of the stress balls every now and then so that you can relax yourself. Warming up is also important to avoid these injuries and you must eat and drink the required food and drinks to keep fit. This can handle the fatigue caused due to stress.
Stretching in between the dances also helps to relax your muscles and it is advisable to stretch every few minutes. Meditation is also another method of dealing with the stress related to dance. Sit cross legged on the floor in a straight posture and close your eyes. Inhale and exhale slowly and deeply. Keep this position for a few minutes and then release. Give yourself sometime to learn the difficult steps. This can also avoid stress.
