Dance Skirts

// September 11th, 2011 // No Comments » // Clothing, Fun, clothes

I was never in dance growing up, though I wanted to be very badly. My mom didn’t have the time to take me to class, or I would have taken ballet. I’m not sure I would have stuck with it for very long, but at that time, that was what I wanted to do. I did go to a few classes, but because my mom was a single mom, she just couldn’t keep up. I was disappointed, but I understood. Now that my own daughter is interested, I hope that I can sign her up soon. I may soon be buying her a tutu, pointe shoes, and dance skirts.

Though many start out with ballet, there are many other types of dance that children can get involved with. They may try tap, jazz, modern, Irish, or even ballroom dancing. Some of these come with the best outfits, and many include dance skirts. These are made to go with the outlandish in style and in likes of Alice and Wonderland costumes and accentuation the motions and the movements of the dance. They are also made to be safe and to allow the full range of motion needed when dancing. Though you may think many have a slit to show some leg, it’s more about free range of motion for the dancer.

Dance skirts for the young are, of course, a bit more modest, nothing like a way of Arabian princess costumes. However, they must still be suitable for dance and the range the body needs to attain. What is worn in dance if often not something that most would wear anywhere else, but it is something that is essential to the art of motion and expression. What most dancers get out of dance is deeply satisfying, and that means the costumes and the dance skirts are many times of little consequence. They just have to be right for the motion of the dance, and they should be something that looks good too.

Many times, when you have to buy dance skirts, the company or organization you are with will ask you for money so they can get them on their own. Sometimes, this comes included in the cost of the program in which your child is enrolled. If you need to go out and get them on your own, you may be a bit limited in where you can buy locally. In that case, one of your very best resources for dance skirts is going to be the Internet. Look around for what you need there, as most types of dance clothes can be found on the web. Even those hard to find ones are rather easy to buy because the web gives you a world of options.

1970s Goth Costume Craze

// August 26th, 2011 // No Comments » // Clothing, Costumes, fashion, halloween, halloween costumes

Back in the late 1970s Gothic was very trendy with a lot of youth. Their clothing was inspired by musicians who dressed in goth costumes, generally very dark and gloomy.

Influenced by horror films, especially those involving vampires. Dracula was a particular favorite of the Goths. Though there weren’t any hard and fast rules, the usual color worn was black and sometimes purple or deep red.

Women wore long, velvet dresses with fishnet stockings and men wore frilly shirts similar to the Romantic poets.

Men and women had dyed jet black hair and some wore white make up; black nail polish; heavily made up eyes with black mascara. Sometimes studded dog collars were worn around the neck.

The bands of the genre had wonderfully macabre names, such as Dead Can Dance, Killing Joke, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Back then, Goth was definitely a counter culture movement in a time when society was obsessed with perfect, model type looks.

Goths are still around, although in depleted numbers. Most people grew out of it as they got older. However, a new round of obsession with vampires in currently trending making dressing in the style popular at Halloween in particular.

// January 8th, 2011 // No Comments » // Costumes, Holidays, Party, halloween, halloween costumes

St. Patrick’s Day is known as a holiday which celebrates Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick was a patron saint of Ireland credited with growing the Catholic religion to numerous regions of Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day takes place on the seventeenth day of March each year, and that is the day which Saint Patrick passed on.

St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland with numerous companies being closed on the day. In other areas around the world, specially the US and Canada, it is commonly recognized but is not an official government holiday. St. Patrick’s Day is a holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics in Ireland. Interestingly enough, once in a while the church respective authorities push the date of the holiday because of its clash along with other holy days. In 2008 it is the circumstance, and it shall be transferred to March 15th to avoid Holy Monday.

Catholics everywhere will begin off their St. Patrick’s Day with a Mass service that is scheduled to indicate the holiday. Within the united states, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by most people being of Irish decent during the day. The day is now more of a secular holiday rather than one of religion. Here in the states St. Patrick’s Day has taken on much more of a meaning of remembering the beginning of springtime. This goes along with the tradition of donning green on the day, because green is both the color of Ireland in addition to the color that implies daily life and growth. It is mentioned that you’ll be lucky for the approaching Spring if you put on green for the holiday.

One of several enjoyable and intensely well-known traditions which goes in conjunction with St. Patrick’s Day is the consumption of green ale. Lots of watering holes and pubs add green food coloring to their drought beer on the holiday to serve to their customers. In addition to the green ale, many people furthermore indulge in Irish Cream and Irish Whiskey on the day as well. For the kids, a nice green lemonade or sprite are excellent non-alcoholic alternatives.

A lot of people put on a shamrock on the holiday to suggest good luck. The three foliage of the shamrock all connected to the very same stem were used to explain this idea to the pagans. If you’re donning a shamrock on St. Patrick’s Day, this would mean you could claim good luck or blessings on that day as well as the rest of the year. You could also dress yourself in a St Patricks Day Costume and really have a great time! Nowadays there are numerous St Patricks Day Costumes to choose from for men, women, children and pets.

Creative halloween costumes adults

// September 18th, 2010 // No Comments » // Clothing, Costumes, Entertainment, events, halloween

Though I don’t go out for Halloween as much as a used to, I remember that in years past I saw a lot of couples costumes everywhere I went. Most of the time this was very cute, but there are some times when you just want to gag. I’m sorry, but I often become uncomfortable around those couples who completely mesh into one person. I’m a very independent person, and even though I am very dedicated to my marriage, I believe that it is important to have my own identity. I also believe that this is very important for my husband as well.

The first time I got into Halloween Costumes Adults was when I was about 17. I was in my first relationship back then, and was hopelessly in love. I guess all kids are in love when they have the first relationship. Anyway, my girlfriend was kind of a cheese ball. She loved anything cutesy and romantic. At Halloween, of course, she insisted on us getting couples costumes. My friends made fun of me, but I persevered anyway. I knew that couple costumes were important to her, and I didn’t want to disappoint her. We went as Tweedledee and Tweedledum that year. Although a few of my friends had to make fun of us, it was clear that they thought the idea was pretty funny.

Little did I know, this Beauty and the Beast costume would be worn and tested many times before Halloween ever even arrived. For all you new parents out there, this basically goes with the territory. Kids love their costumes and they wear them as often as possible, before and even after Halloween night has past.

You can give the trick-or-treaters a double scare when they show up at your front door, or possibly be the best dressed at the local Adult fantasy costumes bash. The days of wrapping up in toilet paper to become a mummy are over. With the deluge of Halloween couple costumes and more at you very fingertips, you simply can’t go wrong.

Why Dress up like Belle from Beauty and the Beast?

// September 15th, 2010 // No Comments » // Clothing, Costumes

If you like Beauty and the Beast as much as I do then you know that Belle is the Main Character and one of the official Walt Disney Princesses. And year after year more children want to put on Beauty and the Beast Belle Princess Costumes than almost any Disney Princess Costume. Why?

It’s got to be Belle’s beautiful Yellow Ball Gown. What little girl doesn’t fantasize of being a beautiful Princess dancing in the Ballroom of an enchanted Castle? And of course they need a beautiful ball gown to complete that imaginary world. So as they see the animated classic movie it is just a natural that they long to have a costume to project their childhood fantasies onto. They see a character in Belle that they maybe like in their ordinary lives (from a little town or at least from very modest means) and they see how quickly circumstances can be changed. In other words the story line is a very plausible scenario. Little girl goes looking for lost father and winds up in a storybook castle with objects that come to life.

Happens to me every day!

Costume Safety at Halloween

// September 11th, 2010 // No Comments » // Clothing, Costumes, Personal Care, halloween

So, you’re going to be roaming the streets (dressed in your Mickey Mouse costume!) this Halloween, in the dark, with your kids. You may go trick-or-treating but be aware of the safety issues. We’re not trying to spoil your fun, but better safe than sorry.

First of all, if you’re all wearing masks, make sure that you can see out of them so that you are aware of traffic and other hazards.

Secondly, are those mouse halloween costumes too dark? If so, take a torch or glow stick with you so that you can be seen. Reflective armbands are also a great idea.

Thirdly, if you must carry candles, check that your costume material is not flammable (modern outfits are usually flame retardant).

Finally, check that there are no trailing pieces of material on your costume. You don’t want to fall over – it can be dangerous and you’re going to look a fool (well, you are trying to scare somebody, after all!).

Have a fun, but safe, Halloween!
